Coins shed light on history due to the depictions and inscriptions they bear. This book is a small study that may be useful for those who want to read the history of Istanbul from coins. Istanbul (Byzantium) started minting its first coins only about 250 years after its foundation, that is, at the end of the 5th century BC or the beginning of the 4th century BC. The city continued to mint coins intensively during the Roman Empire Period (between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD). However, when the city-states stopped minting coins in the mid-3rd century AD, Byzantium also stopped minting coins. However, about half a century later, it started operating as the official mint of the Roman Empire under the name Constantinople, and Roman coins were minted in this city from then on. Minting activities continued during the Byzantine Empire Period until the conquest of the city by the Turks (1453). After the conquest, Ottoman coins were minted intensively in Istanbul (Kostantiniyye) until the foundation of the Republic of Turkey.
