Expatriate Carians
The Carians, one of the first settled peoples of southwestern Anatolia, are a civilization that raised the world's first female admirals, Artemisia I and II, left us the Mausoleum, the tomb of Satrap Mausolus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, and introduced the word "mausoleum" to world literature in reference to this monumental tomb, and managed to preserve their culture and traditions for thousands of years.
They are also known as fearless, seafaring and combat-capable pirates who lived on the mainland, on the islands and in overseas countries in accordance with their geography. According to ancient Egyptian sources, the Carians who came to Egypt to work were "bronze men coming from the sea". According to Herodotus of Halicarnassus, they were the first tribe in history to put handles on shields, crests and tassels on helmets, and to leave shield decoration and painting as a legacy to this world. According to ancient Persian records, in addition to their warrior character, they were skilled stonemasons who knew how to work stone, artists, craftsmen and people who were skilled in carrying heavy materials.
The Carians, one of the most interesting tribes of Anatolia, proved their existence in the countries they went to with the initials they wrote on stones in the Carian alphabet, and left important information about the places they lived and camped, and their expedition routes.
EXpatriate Carians, in which the traces of the Carians in Egypt, Iran and Israel are meticulously followed and the remains in museums and archaeological sites are documented despite great difficulties, is an important source with both the research stories it contains and the information it offers to Carian archaeology.
